I’m entering my 22nd week of pregnancy and I’ve been nesting like a mama-bear preparing for hibernation. To be honest, I am a natural ‘nester’ (aka compulsive organizer/planner), so throw a big life change into the mix and I will go full steam ahead. Especially now, since I know (somewhat) what a newborn will bring into our life; chaos, sleep-deprivation, unhealthy eating, oh, did I mention love?… I am getting extra prepared and started planning our new life with two little animals.
With nesting comes cleaning, my house has been benefiting BIG TIME! And to fill every (working) stay-at-home-mom cliche, we have recently acquired my dream vacuum and I can’t stop vacuuming! Trust me, this is big for me, I am constantly complaining when I have to vacuum, so have learned to accept really dirty carpets instead of hauling our industrial shop vac out of the basement, getting down on my hands and knees and slaving to get the carpets clean. If you’re a fellow cliche mom (high five to you), and care even a little bit, I got a dyson V6 cordless (!!) vacuum, which was on big-time sale at Canadian Tire! The best thing is the battery life is only 20 minutes per charge, so I have to clean fast and be efficient, which I am all about!
Ok, ok, enough about vacuum’s, this post is supposed to be about detoxing my home and essential oils… So here goes.
Especially when I’m pregnant I try to avoid harsh cleaners, I’m not big into the super chemically stuff anyways, but I have been known to enjoy myself a lysol wipe here and there. But I always wonder – what nasty stuff is seeping into my skin? So to further my journey naturalizing my household through skin products (deodorant, face cream, etc), I’ve made my own all purpose cleaner and I LOVE it!
[Side Note: This blog post was supposed to be all about DIY shampoo, but after weeks of trying numerous different recipes, I STILL haven’t found a recipe I love…So I will share one when I find it!]
Rosemary Tea Tree Cleaner
(double or triple recipe to fill whatever container you are using)
1 cu Distilled Water
1 tsp Castille Soap (like Dr. Bronner’s)
20 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
20 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
Mix all ingredients into a spray bottle, shake up and use on any surface, countertops, floors, bathroom, even glass!
This cleaner is anti everything; antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic.
I also use this deodorizing spray in our bedrooms if they are a little funky and need refreshing.
Deodorizing Room Spray
2 cu Distilled Water
15 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
15 drops Eucalyptus or Peppermint Essential Oil
15 drops Pine Essential Oil
Mix all in a spray bottle, use a fine mist to spray on bedding/carpets. Make sure not to spray too much and soak an area.
Essential oils can be modified to find your perfect combination. Get creative 😉
I hope you like these cleaners and much as I do…I need to get back to my cleaning!
See you next week with another exciting DIY recipe!!
