Want to improve your gut health but don’t want to pay a lot of money for a good quality probiotic pill? Well friend, it’s time to up your intake of fermented foods. Komboucha, Keffir, Kimchi, and Sauerkraut are the main ones, in my opinion, sauerkraut is the easiest to make, least expensive and yummiest!
Improving your gut health can improve digestion as well as improve your immunity, and who doesn’t need a little boost at this time of year (hello daycare and school moms). My entire family just got the cold and I’m happy to say that my bout lasted for about 24 hours – when usually I would have been sniffly/coughing for at least a week!
I made my very first how-to video (hello amateur video :p ) , so you can check it out, OR find another more professional how-to video out there…either way, get making! And Eating! Your gut will thank you!
Oh, and the best thing? There are only 2 ingredients: cabbage and salt. You can also add any flavours if you like (chives, garlic, ginger, hot peppers, etc), but I suggest starting with the basic recipe, then experimenting with other flavours in later batches.
P.S. I used a Chinese Cabbage because that’s all they had at the store, and I wouldn’t use it again because the Kraut was a little soft. If you use a regular cabbage, it will be nice and crunchy!
The more rapidly my belly grows and the colder the weather gets outside – the more I am feeling the need to MOISTURIZE! So, I whipped up a delicious belly balm and have been applying it every night. It feels so luxurious, moisturizing, and I love knowing that every one of the ingredients that my skin is absorbing is natural… Read more →
With the dry weather upon us I find I am always applying lip gloss to keep my lips hydrated. I love the EOS peppermint lipgloss egg, but hate throwing the beautiful egg containers out after they’re used up. So I made my own lipgloss and used the old container. And I must say – I’m pretty impressed with how well… Read more →
I like making as few decisions as possible, especially when it comes to little things like choosing what to eat for breakfast. I now have 2 go-to breakfasts that are quick, easy and nutritious. When I’m in a salty mood (which is very rare), I make scrambled eggs with salsa, but when I am in a sweet mood (aka always),… Read more →
I’m entering my 22nd week of pregnancy and I’ve been nesting like a mama-bear preparing for hibernation. To be honest, I am a natural ‘nester’ (aka compulsive organizer/planner), so throw a big life change into the mix and I will go full steam ahead. Especially now, since I know (somewhat) what a newborn will bring into our life; chaos, sleep-deprivation,… Read more →
I have to say, I’m pretty excited about the face cream I made and started using last week. I feel so good every time I put it on and it makes my skin feel so soft, I’m also convinced it’s making my skin look better, but that could just be mental – either way, I feel better! This recipe was… Read more →
I’ve recently been introduced to the world of essential oils and it’s fair to say that I’ve been pretty obsessed with them since. For a long time I have wanted to minimize some of the toxins I use on a daily basis, so after reading a book that totally opened my eyes and inspired me to make my own products,… Read more →
Isla will be turning two in less than a month, naturally she’s growing bored of her baby toys and ready to take her playing/learning to a new level. Lately I’ve been struggling to keep us both entertained all day long since she isn’t in daycare, and I’m home with her most days. Thankfully it’s been a gorgeous summer and we’ve… Read more →
